When previewing an up and coming Bruntnell gig, it’s unforgivable not to quote Rolling Stone who hailed Peter as “England’s best kept musical secret”. Born in New Zealand, but now resident in Kingston Upon Thames, Peter has spent the last couple of decades quietly building a loyal fanbase and a back catalogue of critically acclaimed albums, a journey which has evolved from the low-fi pop of the mid 90’s, to sophisticated Americana. His music has echoes of the Byrds, Big Star and Neil Young and stands up alongside modern American bands like Wilco and Sparklehorse. It has a soft focus feel, with sadly expressive, cracked, lonesome, longing vocals and shining moments of great beauty.
On his first visit to The Wee Gig, hopefully the first of many. Peter will be accompanied on stage by two of the country’s most accomplished musicians, ex-Black Grape double bassist, Danny Williams, and Edinburgh’s Iain Sloan, who many regular Wee Gig visitors will remember playing pedal steel/guitar for Blue Rose Code.
